Homework Policy

I have written this letter to answer any questions that you may have regarding homework assigned in my classroom. Please discuss this policy with your child. It is important that your child bring his/her homework folder to school on time with the assignments completed.

Why do I assign homework? I believe that homework helps reinforce what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits. Homework also provides opportunities for parents to offer positive encouragement and support to their children’s learning.

When will homework be assigned? Homework will be assigned Monday- Thursday, beginning in October. Homework folders will go home the 1st day of the week and is due back to school on last day of the week (usually a Friday). Assignments should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. Your child’s homework folder should be kept at home to complete assignments. Folders should be returned on time, so that they can be prepared for the next week’s assignments.

What is the parents’ role? Parents provide their children with positive encouragement. They are, without a doubt, the main source of support in helping their children to establich good homework habits. They also provide help and guidance as needed. Parent cooperation is essential to successfully bring home and school together to promote learning. Parents should feel free to call, write a note, or schedule a conference if they have any questions about a homework assignment and/or they notice that their child is having any difficulties completing homework.

What will happen if students do not complete their homework? Students who do not complete homework may loose certain privileges, such as center time or recess time.
